John Monnette: Winner of $1,500 Limit 2-7 Triple Draw
Day 16 of the 2023 WSOP also marked John Monnette’s fifth bracelet victory in Event #30: $1,500 Limit 2-7 Triple Draw. Defeating 17 rivals on the final day from a total of 522 competitors, Monnette also cashed $145,863.
Mark Ioli: The Last Player Standing in $3,000 No-Limit Hold’em (6-Handed)
The intense competition of Event #32: $3,000 No-Limit Hold’em (6-Handed) saw the substantial field of 1,271 players whittled down to only 57. Mark Ioli emerged as the ultimate victor, taking home a rewarding $558,266 and an esteemed WSOP bracelet.
Scott Dulaney: First-Time Bracelet Winner in $600 Mixed No-Limit Hold’em/Pot-Limit Omaha Deepstack Event
The final highlight of the day came from Scott Dulaney, who made a memorable impression in Event #31: $600 Mixed No-Limit Hold’em/Pot-Limit Omaha Deepstack. Overcoming a field of 2,757 competitors, Dulaney earned his first bracelet, and a handsome sum of $194,155. His victory not only adds to his credentials but also enhances the captivating narrative of the 2023 WSOP.
Talal Shakerchi in the Lead: Event #33 Razz Championship Update
In the ongoing Event #33: $10,000 Razz Championship, Talal Shakerchi has secured a firm foothold with only 13 players remaining. Aspiring to win the title and a hefty $298,682 top prize, Shakerchi currently boasts 1,104,000 chips. He is followed closely by Carlos Chadha-Villamarin with 1,052,000 chips.
Despite his current leading position, Shakerchi’s road to victory is not without obstacles. The chasing pack is filled with skilled poker players, including the likes of Elior Sion with 745,000 chips, Bryce Yockey with 589,000, Yuval Bronshtein with 574,000, John Hennigan with 346,000, and Nick Schulman with 337,000 chips. Each of these players poses potential challenges to Shakerchi’s dominance.
Strong Contender in Event #34: Josh Arieh’s Dominance
The $1,500 Pot-Limit Omaha, also known as Event #34, attracted an impressive 1,355 players. As the event progressed to Day 2, only 98 players remained in the field, with none surpassing the remarkable performance of PLO expert Josh Arieh, who bagged 1,196,000 chips.
Arieh’s exceptional play combined with a lucky streak has proven to be a formidable force, particularly for someone who has already secured five WSOP bracelets. Close on his heels are Matthew Parry with 1,102,000 chips and Eric Fields with 1,015,000 chips, both having breached the one million chip barrier.
Even though there is still a considerable journey left in the event, Arieh is highly optimistic about winning his sixth WSOP bracelet, potentially tying with his friend Shaun Deeb. However, for this to happen, he would need to surpass a host of seasoned players, including Robert Mizrachi with 829,000 chips, Anson Tsang with 708,000, Daniel Negreanu with 466,000, JC Tran with 358,000, and Kevin Gerhart with 157,000 chips.
Impending Bounties in Event #35: $10,000 Secret Bounty
In Event #35: $10,000 Secret Bounty, a remarkable prize pool of $3,578,400 has been amassed with the participation of 568 players. After 15 challenging levels, only 142 players remain to advance to the next stage.
Loni Hui concluded the event’s night with 616,000 chips, putting her in sixth place at the restart. However, Hui’s position was surpassed by Aliaksandr Hirs with 750,000 chips, Yang Wang with 710,000, Axel Hallay with 708,000, Ariel Mantel with 650,000, and Uri Reichenstein with 626,000 chips. The contest resumes at 12:00 p.m. local time on June 15, with the intriguing promise of secret bounties now in play.
Andres Korn’s Lead in Event #36: $3,000 Nine Game Mix
After Day 1 of Event #36: $3,000 Nine Game Mix, Andres Korn from Argentina secured one of the largest stacks, counting 240,700 chips. Korn, a previous WSOP bracelet holder, is certainly a player to watch as Day 2 unfolds.
According to WSOP-supplied chip counts, Yashuo Chin leads significantly with 622,000 chips, although this number is to be verified at the start of Day 2. Various elite professionals demonstrated their mixed game skills on Day 1, with notable players such as Todd Brunson, Marco Johnson, Scott Clements, Viktor Blom, and Adam Friedman all advancing to the next stage.
Day 17 of 2023 WSOP: What to Anticipate
The 17th day of the 2023 WSOP, scheduled for June 15, is set to see the commencement of two new events: Event #37: $2,000 No-Limit Hold’em and Event #38: $10,000 Limit 2-7 Triple Draw Championship.
These classic games are expected to draw large crowds and a plethora of star participants, respectively. Additionally, the ongoing events, including Event #33: $10,000 Razz Championship, Event #34: $1,500 Pot-Limit Omaha, Event #35: $10,000 Secret Bounty, and Event #36: $3,000 Nine Game Mix, will also continue to command attention.
