Day 41 of the 2023 World Series of Poker, hosted at the Horseshoe and Paris Las Vegas, was dominated by three events, culminating in a bustling atmosphere in the expansive tournament spaces. The day was a whirlwind of activity as the Main Event substantially saw a reduction in its participants, down to 1,517 from the day’s start of 3,538 players.
Spotlight on the Lucky 7’s Tournament
The final starting day of Event #77: $777 Lucky 7’s attracted a noteworthy 3,444 participants, propelling the total attendance to 7,323 players. Only 154 players from the Day 1c managed to secure their stack at the close of the day, setting the stage for 317 hopefuls returning for Day 2.
Leading the chip count at the end of Day 1c was Morgan Petro, bagging a solid 3,100,000 chips. Hot on Petro’s heels was Shawn Daniels with 2,945,000 chips, and Toshimasa Sakato secured third place with a count of 2,360,000 chips. Other noteworthy participants, such as Michael Rodrigues (1,400,000), Rafael Reis (1,065,000), Lara Eisenberg (850,000), Chino Rheem (820,000), Mike Gorodinsky (785,000), Loni Hui (675,000), and David “ODB” Baker, also managed to secure their Day 2 tickets.
Kornuth’s Stellar Performance Continues
Recently, Chance Kornuth has been making waves in the poker arena. With winnings exceeding $3.6 million in 2023 alone, Kornuth continues his stellar performance, currently holding second place in chip count as he enters Day 4 of Event #76: $10,000 WSOP Main Event World Championship. Amassing a total of 1,887,000 chips by the end of Day 3, Kornuth is well-positioned for a realistic shot at the monumental $12.1 million top prize. His only competition comes from Antonio Mallol Heredia, leading the chip count with a slim margin at 1,899,000.
The top five contenders after Day 3 also include Liran Betito (1,775,000), Pei Li (1,742,000), and Nicholas “Dirty Diaper” Rigby (1,719,000).
Familiar Faces among Day 3 Survivors
The record-breaking field has some big names surviving Day 3. Chris Brewer, holding a solid position in the top 20 with 1,447,000 chips, is accompanied by renowned players such as Faraz Jaka (1,378,000), Jesse Lonis (1,188,000), Stephen Chidwick (1,106,000), Yuri Dzivielevski (1,059,000), and Maurice Hawkins (1,028,000). Each player faces the gratifying challenge of packing over a million chips for the upcoming day.
Several other seasoned poker veterans continue their hunt for the championship. The list includes John Racener, the 2010 WSOP Main Event runner-up (950,000), Julien Martini (870,000), Chris Moneymaker, the 2003 champion (778,000), Dominik Nitsche (680,000), Alex Foxen (637,000), and Scott Blumstein, the 2017 WSOP Main Event champion (618,000).
Looking Forward to Day 4
Day 4 is scheduled to commence at 12:00 p.m. local time on July 10, aiming to complete another five 120-minute levels. With 1,517 players preparing to return to the tables, the money bubble is expected to burst early in the proceedings. A minimum of 1,507 players will be walking away with at least $15,000, highlighting the high stakes of the championship.
Day 42 of the 2023 WSOP – What’s in Store
The excitement is palpable as we step into Day 42 of the 2023 World Series of Poker on July 10. With the Main Event’s player field trimmed down to a more manageable level, the focus shifts back to the continuing tournaments and new events slated to begin.
