Thai Ha Wins Event #83: $1,500 Short Deck
Thai Ha emerged victorious in Event #83: $1,500 Short Deck, cutting through a 363 poker players in just one and a half days instead of the expected three. Ha’s maiden WSOP victory was accompanied by a cash reward of $111,170, outmatching David Prociak’s hopes of securing a second career bracelet.
Alex Kulev: The Contender to Beat in the $50K High Roller
Alex Kulev’s journey to high-stakes poker is nothing short of remarkable. The Bulgarian, currently based in Ireland, has rapidly ascended the ranks, now standing just four eliminations away from an enriching $2 million and a coveted gold WSOP bracelet.
With a substantial 19,800,000 chips in hand, Kulev is a formidable contender despite the caliber of his four remaining opponents. The next largest stacks belong to Jake Schindler with 13,550,000 chips and Hungary’s Gergely Kulcsar with 12,350,000. Past 2021 WSOP Main Event winner, Koray Aldemir and Daniel Smiljkovic, while starting with smaller stacks, are not to be underestimated.
John Fagg at the Forefront of the Texas Hold’em $600 Ultra Stack
In Event #81: $600 Ultra Stack, only nine participants remain, and it is John Fagg, with 91,000,000 chips, who is the closest to securing the bracelet and the $401,250 top prize. Fagg, already an owner of a WSOP Circuit ring, leads the pack as they approach the final table.
Peyton Ethridge trails 11 big blinds behind Fagg with 70,000,000 chips. The South Korean Min-Sung Lee ranks third with 59,000,000 chips. Only nine competitors are left, with three resuming play with less than 15 big blinds. The winner of this event is set to achieve their first-ever WSOP championship.
$3K PLO Extends into Day 4 with Matthew Parry Leading
Event #82: $3,000 Pot-Limit Omaha (6-Handed) extends into an unscheduled fourth day as five players continue to compete. Matthew Parry will play poker on Day 4 as the chip leader with a substantial 13,105,000 stack.
Ian Matakis, though in the third position with 8,835,000 chips, is the focal point of attention. Matakis, who was relatively unknown before the 2023 WSOP, has been turning heads with his performances and currently leads the Player of the Year race by 437 points. His impressive track record includes 19 cashes, four final tables, and one bracelet victory. If Matakis can win this event, it would virtually assure him the title of 2023 WSOP Player of the Year.
Other contenders include Dustin Goldklang (11,490,000), Cuba Levenberry (4,915,000), and Lawrence Wayne (2,200,000), who have all reached the finale due to their meritorious performance.
Imsirovic Moves to Round 2 of the $1,500 Shootout
Event #85: $1,500 Shootout saw 100 players advance from their respective tables out of an original 987, each securing a minimum cash of $5,759. The next round will see these survivors battle to reach the ten-handed final table, where at least $19,003 is up for grabs, and the winner receives a WSOP bracelet and $237,367. Among the top players moving forward to Day/Round 2 are Ali Imsirovic, Valentino Konakchiev, Nam Le, Adam Friedman, Faraz Jaka, Yuri Dzivielevski, Chino Rheem, Dinesh Alt, Brian Hastings, Claas Segebrecht, and Jake Schwartz.
Zamani Holds Early Lead in Poker Hall of Fame Bounty
Martin Zamani has emerged as the early frontrunner in Event #86: $1,979 Poker Hall of Fame Bounty, bagging a total of 1,258,000 chips on Day 1. Zamani managed to eliminate poker legend Billy Baxter, which contributed to his lead. Only two Poker Hall of Fame members, Phil Hellmuth and Eli Elezra, managed to make it to Day 2.
Omaha/Stud8 Event Attracts a Large Pool
Event #87: $2,500 Mixed Omaha/Seven Card Stud Hi-Lo 8 or Better saw 460 entrants, with 247 of them making it to Day 2. Patrick Leonard is currently leading with 211,500 chips. Other notable players still in the game include Daniel Strelitz, Nathan Gamble, Max Pescatori, Benny Glaser, Ryan Hughes, and Daniel Negreanu.
What to Expect on Day 46 of the 2023 WSOP

The main focus will be on Event #76: $10,000 WSOP Main Event World Championship, with the final table expected to be determined by the end of the day.
