Born in Chongqing, China, Weiran Pu was introduced to poker in 2010 and got hooked. To him, poker is much like trading. His trader experience earned him strong deductive reasoning skills and exceptional self-control, which brought him advantages in poker.
Unlike many, Weiran Pu has long treated poker as a sport, not just a game. “I am an athlete. My ambition is to challenge the best, practicing the Olympic motto of faster, higher, stronger.”
He is also a high-stakes crusher on GG. In 2022, he ranked No.1 in China and 11th globally (Pocket Fives).
His success has continued. In his first WSOP challenge in July of the same year, he clinched the highly coveted #65 $5k 6-Max champion title, and the most prestigious bracelet every poker player is eager to get.
"When the national anthem was played and the flag fluttered behind me, my Olympic poker champion dream came true.”
Poker player aside, Weiran Pu is also a vlogger. Starting this year, he documents his global endeavors in his channel on Bilibili and TikTok.
“Through my experience as an athlete, I hope to convey to everyone that poker is not gambling.
I hope the public's prejudice against poker in China will change, and more people will join this intellectually fascinating and competitive sport."
